AGM and start-stop batteries, fitted and registered
Driving a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW or any car with start-stop? It needs the right AGM or EFB battery, fitted with your settings kept and the battery registered to the car. We do it in about 20 minutes at our Goodwood workshop beside N1 City.
Message us on WhatsApp or call our landline to talk to us.
What we do for start-stop and premium cars
- Free test first, of the battery and the charging system
- The right AGM or EFB battery for your exact model
- Memory saver during fitment, so you keep your settings
- Battery registration or BMS reset where your car needs it
- Auxiliary (backup) batteries tested and replaced too
- Up to 3-year warranty on AGM, handled at our counter
Not sure what your car has? Send us your make, model and year, or a photo of the battery label, on WhatsApp and we'll confirm the battery before you come in.
Signs your start-stop battery is getting weak
- Start-stop stops switching the engine off at lights.
- A battery or "start-stop unavailable" message on the dash.
- The engine turns over slowly on cold mornings.
- Electrical glitches, such as the radio or dash resetting when you start.
Come in for a free test. Sometimes it isn't the battery at all, and we'll tell you.
Common questions
Does my car need an AGM battery?
If your car has start-stop (the engine switches off at traffic lights) or came with an AGM battery, it needs AGM or, on some cars, EFB again. Many newer BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW, Volvo and Land Rover models use AGM. Send us your make, model and year and we'll confirm.
What's the difference between AGM and EFB?
Both are made for start-stop. EFB (enhanced flooded battery) is a tougher version of a normal battery, used in many start-stop cars. AGM (absorbent glass mat) handles even more stop-starts and electrical load, and is fitted to most premium and high-spec cars. The right one is the type your car was built for.
Can I fit a normal battery instead of AGM?
We don't recommend it. A normal battery in a car built for AGM usually fails within months, start-stop may stop working, and the car's charging system can treat it wrongly. Fitting the right type costs less in the long run.
Why does my car need the battery registered?
Many newer cars manage battery charging electronically. After a new battery is fitted, the car must be told, so it charges the new battery correctly. We do this battery registration or BMS reset where your car needs it.
How long does an AGM battery last?
Usually longer than a normal battery in the same car, often four to six years, depending on how far and how often you drive. Lots of short trips shorten any battery's life.
